Southern Health Improvement Samity is a registered voluntary social welfare organization for social action and economic development in an integrated manner. Spearheaded by Ms. Sabitri Pal and Mr. M. A. Wohab, SHIS has been offering yeomen's service to better the lot of the socially and economically weaker sections of the people of an unserved and underserved unreached areas of West Bengal. The group initiated social service programmes to help the distressed and to regain self-confidence and find new strength. To achieve these objectives, SHIS adopted a multipronged strategy of interactive human relation exercises, personal attention and counselling the target groups.
Mohammed Abdul Wohab, the Director of SHIS, hails from Village Padmapukur, Bhangar of South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal, India. He has completed his Bachelor degrees in Arts, Law and Education. Born on 01st April, 1949 in a small village he started getting acclimatized with the state of the region. more
Sabitri Pal, the lady known as mother monk, was born on 10th of January, 1949 in the remote village of Kalikapur under Bhangar Police Station in South 24 Parganas District of West Bengal, India. She did her graduation from Susil Kar College and completed Bachelors degree in Education from Jadavpur University in 1986. more
SHIS has been steadfast in its commitment to underserved and unserved population, focusing most of its activities in the outreach remote areas of West Bengal. The healthcare activities of SHIS are spread over the districts of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakhin Dinajpur, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Nadia, Murshidabad and West Midnapore, of West Bengal
Education is another sector SHIS is working on. To foster and strengthen human potentials, Shishu Bikash Academy and other schools aided by SHIS, have been giving serious emphasis on education programs. SHIS Girl's Academy is another holistic development. Deaf and Dumb school is the project for educating the physically disabled ones to bring them nearer to the mainstream.
SHIS undertakes various welfare activities through well-structured programs in line with the current activities of the need of the society and instance by the government for educational coachings, blood donation services, spreading happiness by touching the lives of downtrodden people through celebrating various festivals, safe drinking water and disaster management etc.
